This is a compilation of recordings I made with members of The RHYTH-O-MATICS in an attempt to re-form the band in the mid-nineties, and recordings I made with JIMMY SAGE (drums) and ROBIN SYLVESTER (bass) with various artists sitting in. Some of these songs were previously released as a part of the SKY RANGERS album of mostly western songs done in a world beat style, some were released on the RHYTH-O-MATICS’ “Ghost Skankers” CD, while others were never released. “Ghost Skankers” appeared on both the aforementioned CDs, and was also part of a nationally distributed ska compilation “Ska, The Instrumentals”. “Miami SKAline” appeared on “Ska, The Third Wave”, another nationally distributed compilation. Also note that on “Wagon Train Ska” and“Surfinfast Ska”, that’s SQUID VISCIOUS from THE HARVEY MANDEL BANDon bass; the rest is Robin.

“Ska Party” is a re-make of a recording I made in 1983. It’s kind of dark, like a Halloween tune, but I used the same guitar and amp 20 years later and got the same guitar sound! “Skanker’s Island” is the melody I wrote to RICK MILLER’s lyrics and was originally titles “Sleepy Eyed Lady”, rearranged as a ska instrumental. “Mexican Surf” is another remake of a recording from 1983 that I always wanted to do with the RHYTH-O-MATICS but never got around to it. “If You Were Mine” is an instrumental version of one of my favorite RUDI ORTIZ songs. The RHYTH-O-MATICS played the song live, but never recorded it until the mid-nineties sessions, but the basic tracks for that song were a verse and chorus shy, so it was never finished. I dug up the tracks in 2006 and pasted the bass & drums together (No, it’s not where you think; that’s a band pause!) to repeat the verse & chorus and fill the gap.
